Feature in: The Heir to Pictavia
Ron Skene – a fiery redhead – and his best friend Colin lost their fathers in a drink-driving accident when they were only fourteen. It left a mark on Ron, who felt it hard to commit to anyone except for his best friend. His life is willingly consumed by his job as a Glaswegian Detective Sergeant, especially since his DI and his fellow DS are excelling at cutting corners and leaving most of the work to Ron. The only woman Ron’s ever had feelings for is Linda Thatcher, the sister of his own sister’s English boyfriend. The relationship ended in disaster before it even started.
His sister’s return to Scotland and the suspicious death of Ciniod Elphin set a chain of curious events in motion. His search for Ciniod’s Regina (his Queen) brings Linda to Ron’s doorstep, reacquaints them and welds them together over the grief of Linda’s little brother Ciniod, the history student fascinated by early Scottish history, and the Picts in particular.
Ron and Linda get married – and so Ron becomes the heir to Pictavia – and have four children: twins Rhona – also a redhead – and Robert, Louis – another redhead – and Lorna. Rhona will be equally bright and ambitious as her uncle Ciniod. Fluent in Gaelic and Latin she will study Scottish History, obtain a PhD and will eventually become a Professor, specialised in Picts and Scots.
