Malcolm Drummond used to be a very confident sort of person. He may be the youngest of three, but since he made it to Detective Sergeant fairly early in his career, he felt better than his elder brother Calum, who is "only" a courier. At work too, Malcolm used to think ambition was an absolute necessity.
When Malcolm has the fortune to rejoin the team of DI and later DCI Andrew MacIain and DC Tom Baird, it changes him. It even triggers a reconciliation with his brother. He's still eager to jump to conclusions though, which can lead to disastrous situations.
Reclusive Nic twice suffers at his hands, but in the end, it's that very same Nic, who gets to him and helps him deal with a childhood trauma.
Following Andrew's promotion from DI to DCI, DI Chris MacAskill joins the team and becomes Malcom's direct superior. Like with Andrew, Malcolms learns a lot again.
