Andrew MacIain is a Detective Chief Inspector working in Edinburgh. He is known to stick to rules and routine, as well as for thinking out of the box, which earned him a good reputation among his colleagues.
But he is also a very private individual, so for over 13 years, very few people knew that he was having a relationship with one of his team members, DC Tom Baird. Only one other colleague, DS Malcolm Drummond, knew.
Andrew's best friend is Nic, whose life he saved in the Lost Valley, when he was investigating a case when still a Detective Inspector. In return, Nic saved Andrew's life a year later, when they were on holiday in Glen Orchy. It was at that moment Andrew's private life became slightly more public, much to his own relief.
On Andrew's promotion to DCI, DI Chris MacAskill joined his team.
