Ellen and Ellen Ellen & Ellen

Feature in: The Beauty of Braemore

Ellen and Ellen – both née Keith – were worlds apart before they met and fell in love. Born into a very wealthy family, the younger never had to worry about a thing, whereas the elder namesake had to work hard for her degree in Archaeology and even more so for her PhD. Their characters were absolute opposites: the former is prone to bouts of fury and panic, but will eventually bounce back with an undeniable vigour; the latter will remain seemingly composed at all times, but serious setbacks will drag her down beyond the will to fight back.
The day the young Ellen finds out her father is not the money-minded banker but instead her estranged uncle she has never met – the very professor of her lover – Ellen returns to her girlfriend to find her gone, seemingly bought off by her family’s money. Ellen changes her surname into Henderson – after her real father Henry – and searches the country for her lover.
Her former lover on the other hand is hiding in remote Braemore under the name of MacKay, after a series of events she does not understand. She was falsely accused and shortly imprisoned, and then fell victim to a robbery. She doesn’t know she’s been mistaken for her richer namesake.
The pieces finally come together when the old adversaries of the Keiths – the Gunns – want to lash out one final time and head for Braemore. Instead of ending up on the losing side again, Ellen MacKay is finally given all the answers, taken out of her hiding place and reunited with her lover.
Aye, they still live happily ever after.
