Pronounced "La-FROYG"
Together with Ardbeg and Lagavulin, the peatiest of Islay whiskies.
The standard 10-year-old is a very peaty whisky that will simply grab you by the throat and leave you grinning.
I regularly have the pleasure of drinking the Quarter Cask, which matured in casks often used in the 19th century. Because they are smaller, the whisky has 30% more contact with the wood, which leaves a softer taste at first, after which the peatiness of the regular 10-year-old bursts open.
