Tyndrum is not short of hills of various degrees. Fiarach is just one of many.
The picture to the right is taken from Auchtertyre (the Sheep Walk), May 2015, when we had 4 seasons in one hour. Obviously, it was spring when we took this particular picture.
The walk starts at the car park at Dalrigh, a bit south of the village of Tyndrum.
Walk south-east on a small road, until you arrive at a bridge crossing over the river Fillan. Cross it and at a junction, turn right onto a track heading towards Gleann Auchreoch. After 1km you will pass over the railway.
As you continue the track, you will come across some amazing Scots pines, which belong to the ancient Caledonian Pine Forest. Please, send them my regards. They'll remember me.
When you reach a conifer plantation, turn left and look up. This is where you start the climb uphill. For ease of orientation, there's a fence on the right you can follow nearly all the way up. On top of the first slope, the fence turns right and you just follow that until you reach Lochan Fiarach.
Take a breather, but most of all: enjoy the view.
This is the view towards the Bridge of Orchy hills.
And things will only get better.
But first you need to tackle this.
As you can see, the "fence" is quite visible, though I doubt it will stop any animal... or human being for that matter.
What you can also already distinguish, is its extraordinary top. The summit of Fiarach consists of a dolerite dyke, a wall crowning this Graham. Don't let this picture to the right fool you. My other half took a picture of me standing amid that mass of rock and I was quite the miniature version.
If the summit is quite special, the views are even more so. A 360° panorama.
The first picture is Tyndrum with the Bridge of Orchy hills behind.
The second shows the Crianlarich hills. I love the "crocodile" eyes of the Fiarach summit.
The third picture is Beinn Dubhchraig behind the west side of the dolerite summit. Ben Lui proved particularly elusive that day, but is just visible.
Just to demonstrate the marvellous views we enjoyed from Fiarach, some long pictures.
