Meall a' BhuachailleMeall a' Bhuachaille

Just to make this clear from the very beginning: this is a very popular hill. It is a popular area. We deliberately chose a day during the week and yet we queued to get a good spot on the summit. So it's safe to say you will not be standing alone on its summit. Even better, never have we done a walk where we encountered so many dogs (and owners). Nearly every person had at least two dogs.

Meall a' Bhuachaille mapThe start of the walk begins at Glenmore Visitor Centre, in the Cairngorms. You head round the back of the building, and on a clear path, you make your way uphill. Meall a' Bhuachaille signpost

At first the walk is waymarked, but not higher up. But you can't miss it. Once you're out of the woods, the only way is up, on a very obvious path.

When you arrive at a T-section, turn right. Left will take you to the summit of Creagan Gorm. Creagan GormThe picture below is taken closer to the summit, but you can clearly see Creagan Gorm, the bealach and the T-section.

An entire "roundhouse" is built on top of Meall a' Bhuichaille and if you're lucky to find a spot inside, it's ideal to shelter from the wind. But make sure you take enough time to enjoy the view towards Cairn Gorm, Braeriach, Ben Macdui...

You can choose now. towards RyovanEither you go back the same way, or you continue to make a full circle.
The longer walk is stunningly beautiful, but the path is steeper. It winds its way down, all the way to the Ryvoan Bothy, which you might discern on this picture. Aye, it's truly on it.
Once you arrive at the bothy, you're on the track coming from Nethy Bridge and Aviemore.
But you need to turn right and once you're surrounded by marvellous Scots pines, you'll notice that the track got more crowded.
Green lochEspecially when you pass the always green-coloured loch - An Lochan Uaine, tourists will be passing round biscuits in packs.
Just continue along the path, until you arrive at the public road. A path running parallel to the road will take you right back to the Visitor Centre.

A great walk with great views... and a great many dogs.
