ScotlandGlen Orchy, beautiful glen in the heart of the Highlands

The first time we drove through it was on our way from Benderloch (just north of Oban in the west) to Luss (heading for Glasgow). It was raining when we left, but by the time we arrived in Luss, there was not a cloud in the sky. I'm pretty sure it had a lot to do with what happened when we took that wee detour through Glen Orchy.

Glen Orchy

Old HouseI swear, for someone with a restless mind like mine, I have rarely felt so calm. A sense of tranquillity became me and I felt so much at peace and at home that we went back there a few years later to spend a fortnight at Arichastlich, which you can find on the map.
It's a lovely place, in the middle of Glen Orchy. A view on pines and deer, and despite the fact I seem to be a tick magnet (contrary to my better half), I have rarely had a better time. Glen Orchy

My MacGregor heart felt so much at home.

Below a view on the Old and New Houses from the east.

And then the fantastic views you have from the Old House towards the west and then the north east.

Running right through the glen is the River Orchy, flowing over gigantic rocks glistering with a touch of gold. It's a magical place.

I could put dozens of pictures, close-ups and panoramic views, but nothing beats filling your lungs with Glen Orchy air.
